In a bid to restore lost glory to a former icon, the Enugu State government has granted concession to a private investor to breathe new life into the Hotel Presidential, Enugu with a N4 billion investment.

The investor with its special purpose company has since taken possession of the facility and concluded preliminary surveys and assessments of the property.

The Proposed Redevelopment concept involves reconfiguring and modernizing the existing hotel facilities such as restaurants, conferencing facility, outdoor swimming pool, four tennis courts and adding approximately 50 rooms to the already existing 100.

The once iconic facility and former pride of eastern Nigeria had undergone many years of poor management, particularly during the military era, culminating in a complete rundown of the Hotel and subsequent closure.

The investor plans to engage a suitable international hotel management company to operate the hotel, post renovation and manage it at a world class standard when it opens 2nd quarter 2017. The Hotel sits on prime land within Independence Layout Enugu and is approximately a 15-minute drive from the Enugu International airport.

This is a welcomed development for many who have fond memories of their parents having taken them there for weekend outings and so on. Hotel Presidential was a popular destination for many Nigerians and foreign visitors back in the day.

What are your thoughts on this, do you want to see this former icon of the East resurrected? Leave a comment.
